Each season the Hilton Head Island Recreation Association honors the volunteer coaches who promote and exemplify good sportsmanship in our youth athletic programs. At the June Board meeting, the Island Recreation Association recognized Laura Christie, Chris Gregory, AJ Torre and Travis Stephenson. These people received the Association’s Outstanding Volunteer Coaches award for their tireless hours of dedication and being such a positive role model for the children of our community.
The Recreation Association acknowledges the value of volunteers and truly understands this community would not have such wonderful park facilities and first class recreation programs without dedicated volunteers. These coaches are just some of the hundreds of volunteers the Association works with throughout the year.
As a non-profit organization, The Island Recreation Association relies on volunteers to make our programs successful. We would not be successful with our the unbelievable support we receive from our community.
All volunteers must fill out our Volunteer Application to be approved by the Association. This only needs to be done once.
The Island Recreation Center is always looking for dedicated volunteer coaches who are able to plan and supervise games and practices 2-3 days per week for male and/or female athlete's ages 4-15 years old. Some of the responsibility of a volunteer coach includes but it’s not limited to: supervising assistant coaches and team parents, teaching young athletes the fundamental of sports, attending all league functions and participate in league activities/coaches meetings.
All volunteers must be approved by the association. A volunteer coach must successfully pass a background check, attend scheduled coaching meetings, and have knowledge of the sport.
