Where were you born? Born in NYC [Manhattan], but have lived in 9 states since then. Moved here from NW NJ.

What hobbies do you enjoy? My hobbies are reading, puzzles, traveling [50 states] and tent-camping [46 states].

My name is Bob Colyer, and I am 86 years old. Retired college professor, coach, administrator. Taught and coached swimming since 1957. Doctorate under James "Doc" Counsilman, arguably the best-ever teacher & coach of swimming. Earned Master Coach designation from College Swim Coaches Association; chaired NCAA. Swimming Records Committee for ten years. Author -- SWIM BETTER: A Guide to Greater Efficiency for Swimmers and Instructors. Most important is my coach: Married to Allyn Peterson [11 years as NCAA Division 1 Head Women's Swim Coach]. I am a Fitness swimmer. I swim 3x1,000 yd/week, 60-70% drills. I like to help other swimmers become more efficient. I was a runner for 60 years before switching to swimming in 2014. Recruited to compete after moving to Bluffton; first meet July, 2015. Enjoy goals, challenging myself within my limits, and especially PEOPLE in the world of swimming. Invited to join Senior Masters Swim Forum email group; now serving as one of four moderators for SMSF. Currently hold 40 South Carolina Records in my 85-89 age-group. Nationally, I am Top Five in almost all of my events since turning 85. For 2023, I was honored to be named to the USMS All-Star Team for having the most #1 rankings nationally in my age-group.
